Deep mortgage insurance appears to be paying dividends for subprime securitizers, who have seen credit enhancement levels plummet in recent months. But not everyone is enamored with the product. "Even though the price has firmed up, we think it still may not be adequately priced," said Len Sweeney, senior vice president for credit policy at United Guaranty. "It is a very untested product."
