Countrywide Home Loans has restructured its subprime wholesale unit, with an eye toward dominating the market. "We want to be among the top lenders in any field we are in," a company spokesman said. Countrywide finished the first half of this year as the seventh largest subprime lender, generating $2.67 billion in new loans. Countrywide also ranked among the top-10 in subprime servicing, where its portfolio has grown to nearly $20 billion.
