A strong year on the origination front helped power the Alt-A securitization market through 2004’s midway mark – a period that saw issuance swell to a best-ever $63.03 billion. That performance – a 106 percent rise from the same period in 2003 – was fueled by a strong second quarter, when issuance of deals backed by Alt-A loans totaled $37.38 billion.
