The commercial mortgage-backed securities market gained considerable steam during the first half of 2004, a new Inside MBS & ABS analysis reveals. In fact, the first half of 2004 was one of the best periods on record for the CMBS market. Through the end of June, issuance of securities backed by commercial mortgage loans totaled $47.1 billion, a 32.7 percent increase from the same period in 2003.
