The mortgage giant taps two vice presidents to oversee equitable housing issues on both the single-family and multifamily sides of the company.

Fannie financed $76 billion through its Delegated Underwriting and Servicing program, while Freddie pumped out $82.5 billion in loan purchases and guarantees.

The GSEs plan to increase loan purchases in all three DTS categories: manufactured housing, rural areas and affordable preservation.

New multifamily caps, announced in November, also included changes to the definition of “mission-driven.”

The program has accounted for a cumulative savings of 827 million gallons in water consumed and 152 million kilo-BTUs in energy savings.

Investors will be able to elect a real estate mortgage investment option for Fannie’s multifamily MBS beginning Jan. 1.

Under the final rule, Fannie and Freddie will have to hold slightly more than $283 billion in capital. That’s $49 billion more than what FHFA had estimated when it re-proposed the rule in May.

Under the new guidelines, at least 50% of the multifamily loans that Fannie and Freddie purchase must be for affordable housing. That’s up from 37.5% under the prior caps.

On the multifamily side of the aisle Fannie purchased 385,763 units in the low-income category. Freddie did even better: 495,451.
