Industry reaction was swift — and confused.

President Trump said he plans to maintain an implicit guarantee for the GSEs if they’re removed from conservatorship. Prominent agency MBS investors expressed relief about the administration’s stance on GSE reform even though they don’t expect near-term action.

An update to the credit scoring rules at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is expected to improve renters’ mortgage eligibility.

Notable: There was, however, an increase in the volume of unresolved buyback claims.

The non-qualified mortgage market is growing in step with the gig economy, according to industry leaders.

The researchers said, "Despite these large effects, we find no evidence of an offsetting increase in lending for primary residences.”

For the full year, seller repurchases and indemnifications totaled $2.41 billion.

It’s unclear, though, how this stratagem would simplify the “recap and release” of the enterprises.
