The Community Home Lenders of America is pushing for Congress to create a cash window for deliveries to Ginnie Mae. Former Ginnie President Ted Tozer noted the agency’s charter doesn’t allow it to operate a cash window.
Under FHA’s proposal, participating servicers would receive $1,000 in compensation, but the Urban Institute said that personnel costs would often be higher than that.
Borrowers could use interest-free partial claim funds to repay shortfalls on an FHA mortgage to bring it current and then receive a reduced monthly payment for three to five years.
The GSEs say the spike in repurchase requests simply reflects the historic volume in 2020 and 2021. Lenders argue there should be something short of a repurchase request for performing loans with minor defects.
