New York Attorney General Locks Horns With OCC Over Probe of Subprime Lenders’ HMDA Data

New York’s Attorney General has accused a federal bank regulator of trying to stop a probe into the business practices of several major subprime lenders. In a recent speech to the progressive advocacy group Center for American Progress, NY Attorney General Eliot Spitzer revealed that he had been contacted by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency about his request for information from several large subprime lenders, reportedly including CitiFinancial and HSBC Finance.
