“BorrowSmart,” the subprime industry’s campaign to educate consumers on the benefits of home-equity lending and the perils of predatory lending, has come to North Carolina. The nationwide campaign aims to involve local credit counselors in educating borrowers about smart home-equity borrowing and sound money management. Most importantly, consumers are taught how to spot and avoid abusive lending practices.
