The Congressional Budget Office, looking for ways to increase government revenue, is once again suggesting that lawmakers consider charging Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac a fee for their perceived agency status. Buried in the CBO’s latest “budget options” released this week is the notion that Congress could both boost government income and be reimbursed for the implied federal guarantee the government-sponsored
