The House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on TARP and Financial Services plans to hold a hearing on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 24, on the subject of how the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will function under its new director, Richard Cordray. Are current mortgage underwriting standards too tough?

Yes, they don’t reflect current market conditions and need to be adjusted to allow borrowers with below 700 FICO scores and smaller downpayments to qualify for mortgages.
