A proliferation of badly underwritten, poorly disclosed, nontraditional mortgage products is putting borrowers significantly at risk, consumer advocacy groups have warned. The warnings were sounded often in comment letters filed with federal bank and thrift regulators on proposed guidance that would set new standards for the origination, marketing and sale of such products as interest-only loans and option adjustable rate mortgages.
