The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has agreed to recommendations in a Government Accountability Office study to improve handling of consumer complaints against national banks and their operating subsidiaries. The GAO study was prompted by a congressional request responding to concerns expressed by some state regulators and consumer advocates that consumer protections may have been diminished by OCC¡¯s 2004 final rules on federal preemption.
