Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fared remarkably well under legislation approved by the House Financial Services Committee this week. Not only did the two government-sponsored enterprises escape caps on their massive MBS portfolios sought by the Bush administration, but they also received a gift of sorts in the form of a substantial hike in the conforming loan limits for high cost areas.
