Congress this week got its first look at a long-awaited Congressional Budget Office report that shows that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s implied federal subsidies have nearly doubled over the past five years to reach $10.7 billion in 2000. But what, if anything, lawmakers intend to do with the findings appears to be anybody’s guess.
