In a demonstration that the GSE can manage its interest rate risk in a volatile rate environment, Fannie Mae announced late last week that its so-called duration gap had returned to management’s desired range of plus or minus six months. Fannie reported its duration gap at the end of October was a minus six months – down from the record-high minus 14 months found in August and down from 10 months in September.
