Two of Fannie Mae’s largest customers made sizable contributions to the Consumer Mortgage Coalition last year, a small but well-heeled trade group closely aligned with FM Watch and a major critic of the GSEs. That revelation was contained in the CMC’s recently released 2001 tax return. Although the trade group gets most of its money – some $2.24 million last year – in dues from members, the CMC also receives “contributions” from non-member firms.
