The battle lines over federal predatory lending legislation were officially drawn last week, when a long awaited – and already controversial – predatory lending bill was introduced in the House of Representatives. Sponsored by Reps. Bob Ney, R-OH, and Ken Lucas, D-KY, the so-called Responsible Lending Act would provide modest new protections for high-cost borrowers, set standards for housing counselors and tighten licensing requirements for mortgage brokers.
