A new predatory lending law could make it more expensive for lenders to do business in California, one of the nation’s largest markets. The bill, AB 489, which is expected soon to be signed into law by Democratic Gov. Gray Davis, could create significant new headaches for lenders who are already struggling to keep up with a myriad of state and local legislation aimed at abusive lending.
