Lenders in Massachusetts are trying to head off proposed legislation that would force public pension funds to get rid of investments backed by predatory mortgage loans. The bill, SB 18, would also bar the state from making new investments in "stocks, securities or obligations" of companies that draw more than 5 percent of their revenues from loans deemed abusive. Similarly, public pension funds would be required to dump any investments in companies where allegedly abusive
