The Financial Accounting Standards Board last week agreed to propose that financial institutions could apply fair value treatment for broad classes of servicing assets, rather than having to adopt this approach for the entire enterprise. FASB has been working since early this year on a proposal to allow mortgage lenders and other holders of servicing rights on securitized financial assets to report these assets at their fair value. Current accounting rules require servicing rights to
