HUD Says Fannie and Freddie Can Use Big-Ticket Negotiated Deals to Bolster Their Affordable Housing Performance

Officials with the Department of Housing and Urban Development said this week that large-scale transactions made by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at the end of 2003 would count toward the firms’ affordable housing goals. But HUD indicated that it might change this policy in new regulations due to take effect in January.
