NC Bar Reverses, Agrees to Allow Non-Lawyers at Close

The Bush administration is urging North Carolina to adopt two opinions proposed by the state bar to allow non-lawyers to perform real estate closing services under certain conditions. In a joint July 11 letter to NC State Bar President E. Fitzgerald Parnell, the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice said any opinion allowing only lawyers to close real estate transactions could potentially harm consumers.
