Martinez Hints at Broader Reforms in RESPA Rulemaking, Says Proposal Will be More ‘Pro-Consumer and Transparent’

The Department of Housing and Urban Development will issue a broker fee disclosure proposal within the next three months that is far broader than anticipated, according to HUD Secretary Mel Martinez. Testifying at a HUD 2003 budget hearing last week, Martinez assured lawmakers that he would come up with a “sweeping” reform of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act’s broker fee provisions “sooner rather than later.
