HUD Home Sale Program for Cops, Teachers Reactivated
August 27, 2001
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has resumed its Officer Next Door/Teacher Next Door home sales program after implementing measures to prevent homebuyer fraud. The program was suspended in April this year due to abuses and fraud committed by police officers. Nine policemen who purchased homes under the program have been convicted of fraud, but a report by the HUD inspector general said the number could be significantly higher.
