Historically, there has been a limited supply of adjustable-rate mortgage securities and the investor base has been dominated by hold-to-maturity investors such as banks and real estate investment trusts. But that is quickly changing as an explosion in hybrid ARM securities has prompted more investors to take a second look at these investments.
