Bush Aide Cites Growing Risk as Need for Overhaul of Government’s Regulation of Fannie and Freddie

The implicit government backing enjoyed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – along with the expansion of their activities and investment portfolios – has created the need to improve regulatory oversight of the government-sponsored enterprises in order to protect the entire financial system, according to a high-ranking administration economist.
