House GOP Bill Would Put Fannie, Freddie On Budget and Other Things Affecting the GSEs

For this week’s issue of Inside The GSEs, we will delve into the newly passed Republican bill in the House that would require that the federal budget reflect the net impact of programs administered by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
H.R. 3581, the Budget Account and Accounting Transparency Act of 2012, sponsored by Rep. Scott Garrett, R-NJ, is part of a comprehensive package of 10 reform bills House GOP members are pushing to enforce spending controls and oversight of federal spending.
Other news items on tap include:
- Industry insiders are cautiously optimistic about reports that the Federal Housing Finance Agency is having second thoughts about implementing its proposed overhaul of mortgage servicing compensation in light of massive pushback.
- A federal judge has tabled the FHFA’s recent request for summary judgment in the Finance Agency’s lawsuit to exempt the GSE-owned homes from Chicago’s vacant building ordinance.
- The FHFA has issued a number of minor but important changes to its existing Freedom of Information Act regulations in a newly published final rule.
